2006 What a Year for Winter Thunder Challenge Snocross in Wauconda, IL!

Despite the unseasonably warm temperatures, what a year 2006 turned out to be at Winter Thunder Challenge. WTC made its debut on January 1st, 2006 at the Golf Farm, its new location in Wauconda IL. The track is the Southern most Snocross track in the world, holding races at a fixed location every Saturday and Sunday from the 1st of January to the 2nd week in March. There are classes for every one who would like to taste the excitement of Snocross racing for them selves, from the Legends class 35+ years of age, Semi Pro Classes all the way down to the largest class of 120 racers in the world to include their very own outlaw class for the little guys and gals to really get it on!

If you are a spectator and enjoy the excitement of extreme racing, the smell of race fuel, a heated spectator area, trackside lounge and want to experience some of the Highest Flying Snocross action in the Midwest, the new location at the Golf Farm is a spectators paradise! Enjoy a view of the finish line jump from inside the heated trackside lounge or view the excitement from a covered and heated outdoor spectator area. The race grounds include a club house with game room, restaurant and bar, excellent viewing of the race course, a three story race tower, announcers booth with a sound system that can heard for a mile, race day radio broadcast and track lighting if the venue runs past dark. A Racine Extreme hats off to WTC as they have missed no details with the set up!

The competitors of WTC bring it to the line every week as they compete for year end points along with weekly trophies & podium titles. The 2006 season brought several special events along with the weekly racing schedule. A couple of the special events for 2006 where the Victor Ford Challenge on February 18th and 19th and the WPSA Regional Race and National Qualifier on February 25th and 26th drawing big crowds and record amounts of race entries. WTC has been known to produce and feed several Pro Racers to the big leagues and has served as a training grounds and a practice track for several up and coming racers.

The efforts of the WTC crew in 2006 was second to none! Despite the warm temperatures Mother Nature spread over the Midwest in early 2006 the crew at Winter Thunder did everything possible to make sure the track was snow covered and never missed a race! Venues hundreds of miles North had canceled while the racing continued at Winter Thunder. The people who make Winter Thunder happen deserve a huge pat on the back as I can only begin to imagine the time and effort it takes to make sure there is enough snow to race when the previous weeks temperatures touched on 50 degrees!
